One of the most anticipated shows to emerge from Netflix’s Ryan Murphy deal is on the way. We’re talking about DAHMER (Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story), a gripping 10-part limited series created by Murphy and his long-time collaborator Ian Brennan that tells the story of the infamous serial killer. Murphy co-wrote the script for Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story with Ian Brennan (Glee, Ratched, Scream Queens) and David McMillan (Lucifer, Sleepy Hollow).

Along with Murphy and Brennan, all three directors will work as executive producers on the show. Additionally, Rashad Johnson of the racial justice initiative Color of Change will act as supervising producer. One of the many projects Murphy is working on for Netflix as part of his sizable overall deal with the streaming service is DAHMER (Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.
What is the plot of Netflix’s DAHMER?
Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer, also known as the Milwaukee Cannibal or the Milwaukee Monster, was a notorious American serial killer and sex offender who murdered and dismembered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991, many of whom were people of colour and some of whom were minors. The majority of the killings also included necrophilia, cannibalism, and the preservation of body parts. Dahmer was found legally sane at his trial despite being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, schizotypal personality disorder, and a psychotic disorder. He was beaten to death by another inmate in 1994, two years into his sentence, after being convicted of 16 murders. He was 34.
According to Deadline, Monster will take place in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s and will conclude with Dahmer’s arrest in 1991. It is also expected to take a more psychological approach to Dahmer’s story than previous adaptations. Monster will concentrate on how these murders were allowed to continue for so long. The following is the official synopsis for Netflix’s Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story:
Monster tells the story of one of America’s most notorious serial killers, Jeffrey Dahmer, largely through the eyes of his victims, and delves deeply into the police incompetence and apathy that allowed the Wisconsin native to go on a multiyear killing spree. The series depicts at least ten instances in which Dahmer was almost apprehended but was ultimately released. The series is also expected to address white privilege, as Dahmer, a clean-cut, good-looking white man, was repeatedly given a free pass by cops and judges who were lenient when he was charged with minor offences.
