The Playlist, which is set to be released in October 2022, will tell the untold story of another streaming giant. It is a Swedish limited drama series about Spotify, the music streaming service that many of us use nowadays. Per-Olav Srensen (Home for Christmas) directed all six episodes of Netflix’s The Playlist, which were written by Christian Spurrier, the show’s head screenwriter (Silk).
The series is produced by Yellowbird, the production company behind Netflix’s Young Wallander series, and Banijay Group. The project was first announced in December 2019 by Netflix, who stated:

“The story of Spotify’s founding is a great example of how a local story can have a global impact.” This is not only a story about how our lives have changed in the last decade; it is also about the struggle for cultural and financial influence in a globalised, digitised world.”
Berna Levin of Yellow Bird is the executive producer, Eiffel Mattsson is the producer, and Luke Franklin is the development producer. Everything else we know about Netflix’s The Playlist is as follows:

What is The Playlist’s plot?

The Playlist on Netflix is an adaptation of Spotify Untold (also known as The Spotify Play: How CEO and Founder Daniel Ek Beat Apple, Google, and Amazon in the Race for Audio Dominance), a book about the rise of Spotify written by Swedish investigative tech journalists Sven Carlsson and Jonas Leijonhufvud.
Daniel Ek, the whiz kid CEO of Spotify, celebrated the hard-earned US launch of his company on a summer’s eve in 2011, after more than a year of delays. Only fifteen minutes away was Steve Jobs’ modest brick house, where he had worked tirelessly to prevent this moment from occurring.

Jobs viewed the downloaded music that was kept inside his software as the main weapon in his holy war against Google as the tech battle between the Apple iPhone and Android had raged. But Spotify had changed the lines of battle. Ek’s platform, which had humble beginnings as a Swedish start-up, had quickly risen to the top of the music streaming world by enticing the notoriously rigid music labels to sign deals with him by threatening them with piracy and illegal downloading. Ek would quickly discover that his belief that the battle had been won that summer night was unfounded.

Who is in the cast of The Playlist?

Edvin Endre (Vikings) portrays Daniel Ek, Ulf Stenberg (Beartown) portrays Per Sundin, Gizem Erdogan (Caliphate) portrays Petra Hansson, Joel Lützow (Gsmamman) portrays Andreas Ehn, and Christian Hillborg (The Last Kingdom) portrays Martin Lorentzon.
