Two significant science fiction films, Rebel Moon Parts 1 and 2, will be produced and directed by Zack Snyder in another Netflix collaboration. According to comparisons with Star Wars in terms of scale and scope, the upcoming film or films are an epic sci-fi adventure. Here is a summary of everything we currently know about Rebel Moon and what we can expect from it.
Many of his former collaborators from previous films will reunite with Zack Snyder as he directs and co-writes the movie. Shay Hatten, who also wrote Army of the Dead, and Kurt Johnstad, who collaborated with Snyder on 300, will write the script for Rebel Moon. The Stone Quarry, which is also listed as Eric Newman’s production company Grand Electric and has an overall agreement with Netflix, is the main production company behind the film.
Snyder will produce Rebel Moon with his wife and co-producer Deborah Snyder through their Stone Quarry label, along with longtime principal Wesley Coller. Eric Newman, who produced Snyder’s feature debut, Dawn of the Dead, is producing through his Grand Electric label. Netflix executive working on the project is Ori Marmur.

The story synopsis for Netflix’s Rebel Moon: Ascension has been revealed by The Hollywood Reporter.
The plot begins when the armies of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius threaten a peaceful colony on the outskirts of the galaxy. Desperate, the colonists send a young woman with an unknown past to seek out warriors from neighbouring planets to assist them in making a stand. As previously revealed, the film is heavily inspired by Star Wars and was a Star Wars pitch a decade ago.
In November 2021, the following plot details for the film were revealed:
“The film takes place in a peaceful colony on the outskirts of the galaxy that is threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius.” They send a young woman with a mysterious past to find warriors from neighbouring planets to assist them in taking on the Tyrant.”

When will Rebel Moon be available on Netflix?
On July 26th, Zack Snyder tweeted that they were on “Day 68” of filming, along with a behind-the-scenes video. Snyder announced the same day that they had custom-made lenses made specifically for Rebel Moon. Rebel Moon Part 2 was awarded $16.6 million in tax credits (on a budget of $83 million) by California’s Film & Television Tax Credit Program in late August 2022.
Netflix has not yet set a release date for Rebel Moon, but given the potential scope of the production, we shouldn’t hold our breath because films of this scale typically take several years to complete. At the very least, we would anticipate 2023.
