Virgin River’s cozy and sympathetic drama and romance have made it a fan favourite since its Netflix debut in 2019. Ahead of the even greater Virgin River season 5, the tiny town series just debuted its critically acclaimed fourth season.

In the next fifth season, there is a lot to look forward to, including the paternity revelation for a specific set of twins, two upcoming births, a wedding, and a lot more. Virgin River may have greater diversity, according to a recent discussion about the show with Jinny Howe, head of drama at Netflix.

In the fourth season, the show debuted Hannah, a waitress at Jack’s Bar, as its first LGBTQ+ character. It also included more individuals of colour in the Virgin River neighbourhood. The fifth season is now under production, and a new showrunner has been appointed with the goal of improving representation.

Although Virgin River season 5’s new cast and plotlines have not yet been publicly revealed, Howe gave viewers a sneak peek at the behind-the-scenes work that will address the show’s persistent bias against diversity and inclusion.

Virgin River has lagged behind other Netflix shows in terms of ensuring that all facets of society are represented on screen. Season 5 will keep bridging the gap so that fans may identify with the characters in their favourite shows.

The executive producer of Greek and Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings Patrick Sean Smith will take over as showrunner from outgoing one Sue Tenney, who resigned after the fourth season. Smith will provide Virgin River with a fresh and important viewpoint as an out homosexual author who is married to fellow television writer Carter Covington.

There is little doubt that the beloved characters from the fourth season and the subsequent 12 episodes will return. Howe said that she anticipates “longevity and growth” for the series and a promising future. Sounds like Mel, Jack, and the rest of the crew will be joining us for many more summers in Virgin River!
