The second teaser for The Idol, the new drama series produced by Sam Levinson, the director of The Weekend and Euphoria, has been published by HBO.

The new trailer not only serves as a reminder that The Idol will be loaded with sex but also gives us a better look at its enlarged ensemble. Tesfaye will play the starring role of a self-help guru, club owner, and head of a contemporary cult who starts dating Lily-Rose Depp’s character, a rising pop singer.

In the trailer, Jennie from BLACKPINK, who will make her acting debut in the show, is shown accompanying the former’s character on a night out partying.

The core cast will also include Troye Sivan, former Disney Channel legend Debby Ryan, and Transparent breakout star Hari Nef. Tyson Ritter of The All-American Rejects and Tunde Adebimpe of TV On The Radio will appear on a regular basis.

In the most recent teaser, it is revealed that Moses Sumney, Mike Dean, Suzanna Son, Jane Adams, Dan Levy, Eli Roth, Rachel Sennott, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Ramsey, and Hank Azaria are among the performers and creatives who will make an appearance. The inclusion of Tesfaye in the most recent episode of The Simpsons makes the latter inclusion more noteworthy.

YG Entertainment released a statement from Jennie last month regarding her participation in The Idol, in which she stated: “I thought the screenplay to be quite fascinating, therefore I wanted to be part of the series. I’m ecstatic right now. Please keep an affectionate eye on me as I labour hard. Blackpink just made a comeback with their new single, “Pink Venom,” and now there is a new trailer.

Despite the new trailer’s promise to send viewers far into “the gutters of Hollywood,” nothing more is known about The Idol. A particular release date has not yet been set, but the first season’s six episodes are expected to air on HBO Max before the year is up. The Idol will make its UK streaming and Sky debuts.

The programme itself premiered in June of last year, and production got underway in November. In a statement, HBO said that the series was altering its cast and staff to serve a new direction. Back in April, it was rumoured that substantial reshoots will be taken out to change its creative direction.

Currently on his long-delayed After Hours Till Dawn tour, Tesfaye is touring across North America as The Weekend. A review of Dawn FM that was published in January and gave it four stars.
