HBO Max experienced an excessive amount of traffic on Sunday night in the US due to the eagerly awaited premiere of the Game of Thrones prequel. Around the same time that “House of the Dragon” was released at 9 p.m. in New York, more than 3,000 outages were reported by the international monitoring service Downdetector.
The precursor to the immensely acclaimed Game of Thrones series, House of the Dragon, debuted on HBO Max on August 21. Fans of the adored parent series flocked to the studios’ streaming platform as planned to watch the eagerly awaited prequel. It appears, though, that the streamer was not quite prepared to face all of the viewers who were turning in to fly with House Targaryen.
When the first episode of the series became streamable, many subscribers lamented their inability to watch the first episode. This led a lot of people to look for assistance in resolving the problem. HBO Max subscribers and viewers flooded the @HBOMaxHelp Twitter help account with support requests. In a statement about the problem, HBO said that it appeared that only people using Amazon devices to stream were apparently affected by the crash, which reportedly affected about 3,000 viewers.
HBO Max is not averse to this kind of situation as the streamer also faced comparable difficulties in the later seasons of the original series. The exact number of users who were affected by the crash is not yet known. Based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, the television series House of the Dragon would explore the history of House Targaryen and the civil war that would break out as a result of competing claims to the Iron Throne. 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones are depicted in the prequel series.
The first episode of the new series has already established the tone for an intense struggle for dominance, and we have progressively become familiar with the new players in this game. Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans are among the actors who appear in the movie House of the Dragon.
