In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jennifer Grey discussed the potential for a Dirty Dancing sequel. The actress discussed the film’s legacy as well as her ambitions for the follow-up with Lionsgate. In July, Grey announced that she will be returning to the character of Baby in the movie’s impending sequel, but she would not reveal any other information.

Grey was only 26 years old when she played the character of the recent high school graduate in the original 1987 movie. Since her co-star Patrick Swayze passed away in 2009, Grey announced that the sequel will follow a new path. Grey admitted throughout the interview while laughing, “I can’t tell you much, sadly, but I will tell you that it will involve Baby. It will involve Kellerman’s. There will be music. Unless there’s a lot of CGI, Baby’s going to be a little older.”

Grey said, “It’s going to be Kellerman’s, music, dancing, love story, romance. I’m just so super committed and invested in making it a fresh [take]. She added, “What happened happened, and that will never happen again. There will never be another Johnny. There will never be another Patrick. This sequel has got to be its own standalone piece. It’s very tricky.”

Grey did not reveal any important details, but she did confirm the movie’s release date. She said, “There’s a script, we’re working on the script. We’re going to shoot it in the spring of 2023, and it comes out on Feb. 9, 2024. So, I guess it’s happening!”
