Almost every child born in the late 1980s or early 1990s has seen fantastical stories come to life on the big screen. Kids of various historical periods have found a sense of familiarity and comfort in these tales. The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien is no exception. It is reasonable to claim that Peter Jackson’s adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien’s writings changed the way people expected fantasy movies to be produced. Jackson has done the works of Tolkien full credit, whether it be in “The Fellowship of the Ring,” “The Two Towers,” or “The Return of the King,” and has rendered characters like Gandalf, Sauron, and Frodo sympathetic in every manner.

The fantasy series has received 17 out of 30 Academy Award nominations, with “The Return of the King” winning eleven, thanks to Jackson’s mastery of his art. Following the completion of the three Lord of the Rings films, Jackson made the decision to return and ended up producing three further Hobbit films, The Hobbit: These films were undoubtedly not well accepted, but they do provide an amazing visual spectacle.

The television rights to this massive epic narrative were purchased by Amazon Prime on November 13, 2017, for an astounding US$250 million. The streaming service described it as its most ambitious endeavour to date since it was so determined to portray the untold stories of Middle Earth. Because they saw no need in reinventing a tale that had already been told, industry insiders dubbed the sum as ridiculous. Nobody was aware that Prime Studios had already begun collaborating with the Tolkien Estate & Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line to develop a plot that included the occasions that had taken place prior to those depicted in the Lord of the Rings films.

Making great strides in the right way, Prime Studio attracted Peter Jackson, who in April 2018 confirmed his involvement with the project. Later in December 2018, Peter Jackson said that he read the script and provided Prime Studio with his suggestions in order to accurately portray the events. Prime Studio said that their adaptation of the well-known LOTR would take place over five seasons and cover every subject in depth as the authors started their work in February 2019.

Fans and the studio are only crossing their fingers that the new version does homage to Tolkien’s masterpiece and manages to pick up where Jackson left off as Amazon Prime is going all out for this epic fantasy drama. Release day for the fantasy series is September 2, 2022.
