The Midnight Club by Mike Flanagan has just received its first official look from Netflix, along with a release date. The Midnight Club will drop on Netflix on October 7. Iman Benson, Adia, Igby Rigney, Ruth Codd, Aya Furukawa, Annarah Cymone, William Chris Sumpter, and Sauriyan Sapkota are all newbies to the series, which is directed by Mike Flanagan, who also helmed Midnight Mass and The Haunting of Hill House. Veteran horror actress Heather Langenkamp also appears in the series as the medical director of the hospice where the terminally ill teenagers are housed.
The upcoming horror mystery-thriller, which is based on Christopher Pike’s YA horror novel The Midnight Club, centres on a group of eight terminally ill teenagers who meet every night at midnight to share stories and make a pact that the next one to pass away will send the group a sign from the afterlife. After one of them passes away, strange things start happening in the hospice.
The principal characters in The Midnight Club’s new photos are shown in all their splendour. While the other photos appear to be stills from the actual series, one picture shows the cast intentionally looking into the camera. One image, which features a man using an outdated phone with tears in his eyes while the other characters appear to be screaming and hurt in the background, is especially horrifying. These pictures suggest that the show might be a campy homage to children’s horror films like Are You Afraid of the Dark? while also incorporating some more mature themes like the Fear Street trilogy on Netflix.
The Midnight Club’s debut season will have ten episodes. Director Flanagan, a master of contemporary horror, is responsible for the first two episodes. Axelle Carolyn, Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour, Michael Fimognari, Morgan Beggs, and Viet Nguyen are responsible for the remaining episodes. On The Midnight Club, Flanagan, Fong, Pike, Trevor Macy, and Julia Bicknell all work as executive producers.
