After the controversial Oscars slap in March, Will Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, were seen together in public for the first time. For the first time since Will smacked Chris Rock on stage in defence of Jada at the 94th Academy Awards, the couple enjoyed an afternoon date at Nobu Malibu on Saturday.

The couple seemed in good spirits, and the man with the beard Jada seemed to be holding onto Will’s belt loop as they headed to their car, and Will even threw the peace sign to a fan. Will Smith was dressed in a black jumpsuit with a red-checked flannel jacket tied around his waist, while Jada was dressed in a dark-blue collared T-shirt and matching leggings. Will finished off his appearance with a black cap and a brand-new pair of white Air Force Ones, while Jada accessorised with gold-tinted sunglasses, sported a pair of sneakers, and accessorised with delicate jewellery.

The 2022 Oscars made headlines for a variety of reasons. The highlight of the night was Will Smith punching Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett while the red carpet, nominations, and awards were undoubtedly show-stealers. Will travelled to India in April shortly after, but Jada was nowhere to be found.

In a happy mood and beaming, the actor was observed waving goodbye to his wife on Saturday after they had lunch at Nobu. The couple was seen together in casual clothing. Since the Oscars incident, the couple has avoided the spotlight and hasn’t been seen out together in particular.

Will apologised for his behaviour at the Academy Awards in a video he posted last month, and he also addressed whether he has spoken to Chris Rock about the situation since then. Smith added that she shared the moving video on YouTube. “I will say to you Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk. I want to apologize to Chris‘ mother. I saw an interview that Chris‘ mother did… That was one of the things about that moment, I just didn’t realize and I wasn’t thinking about how many people got hurt in that moment.”
