Attica Locke and Tembi Locke produced the Netflix original series From Scratch. It is based on Tembi Locke’s best-selling memoir From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home. What is the story of From Scratch about?
As previously stated, Netflix’s From Scratch will be based on author Tembi Locke’s real-life experiences and family as detailed in her autobiography, which was released in May 2019.
Here’s a synopsis of the book:
In her darkest hour, one lady discovers the healing powers of food, family, and unexpected grace in a beautiful and mesmerising cross-cultural love tale set against the lush background of the Sicilian countryside. Tembi met renowned chef Saro on a street in Florence and it was love at first sight. One issue remained, though: Saro’s conservative Sicilian family did not support his decision to wed a black American woman, much less an actor. But the couple keeps going despite their heartbreak. With successful careers, close friendships, and the joy of their lives—a baby girl they adopt at birth—they create a fulfilling existence for themselves in Los Angeles. They eventually make amends with Saro’s family just as he is being treated for a deadly cancer that will destroy all of their ambitions. In From Scratch, Tembi spends three summers in Sicily with her daughter Zoela as she starts to put together a life without her husband in his little farming village. Tembi now finds comfort and sustenance at her mother-in-table, law’s while she earlier felt distant from Saro’s family and his origins. In the rural areas of Sicily, she discovers the benefits of straightforward, healthy cuisine, the warmth of a close-knit neighbourhood, and enduring customs and knowledge that illuminate the way forward.
Who is in the cast of From Scratch?
Zoe Saldana, whose recent credits include Avatar and its four sequels, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers, Star Trek, and the upcoming Netflix film The Adam Project, will lead this next limited series. Amy Wheeler, the show’s main protagonist, will be played by Saldana.

Netflix’s From Scratch was filmed over a short period of time, from April 5, 2021, until August 7, 2021. Prior to moving to Florence, Italy in July 2021, filming took place in Los Angeles, California, first. The limited series has been in post-production as of November 2021.
We can now officially announce that From Scratch will be available on Netflix on Friday, October 21, 2022, thanks to the publication of some promotional materials. From Scratch on Netflix is a short-term series with eight one-hour episodes.
