Following its May 2020 premiere, Sweet Magnolias became an instant hit on the streaming site. The Netflix drama follows three childhood best friends in small-town South Carolina as their lasting relationship guides them through maturity, romance, work, and family, based on Sherryl Woods’ book series of the same name. Maddie Townsend, Dana Sue Sullivan, and Helen Decatur are played by JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, and Heather Headley, respectively.
According to Netflix’s top ten stats, viewing of Sweet Magnolias swiftly declined after a good start. With the introduction of season 2, there was also an increase in viewing for the first season. Between February 6th and February 13th, Season 1 received 21.64 million hours of viewing.
The series was viewed 161,300,000 times globally between January 30th and March 6th, 2022 (the first 30 days on the site).
Nielsen’s top ten data can give us an idea of how well the show is doing in the United States. The show accumulated 4,629 million minutes between January 31st and March 6th.
With a large photo of the cast and crew, the Sweet Magnolias writer’s room celebrated their 7th day in a row in the Netflix top tens.
Aside from viewing statistics, we can see how the show is doing on Google Trends and IMDb’s MovieMeter.
IMDb’s MovieMeter monitors inbound traffic to individual programme and movie pages. It gives you a decent notion of how popular shows are in comparison to other networks. The first season of the show peaked at #4 in its first week, but the second season only managed to reach #15 in its first week. According to Google Trends, the second season did not reach the same heights as the first. It also appears to have a considerably greater dropoff than the first season.
When will Season 3 of Sweet Magnolias be available on Netflix?
The new third season will be shot in Covington, Kentucky, and Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States. The show’s production team was looking for new sites in early June 2022. Sheryl Anderson wrote on Instagram, “Thrilled to be thinking and planning Season 3 with friends, old and new!!!”
On July 1st, the show’s star, Joanna Garcia Swisher, revealed on Instagram that she has coloured her hair again to reprise her part in the next third season, implying that filming is approaching.
Filming did begin in July 2022, with the official Sweet Magnolias page announcing that it had began on July 18th, 2022. “‘Shall we begin?'” read the caption on their post. “I’m so excited to welcome everyone back to Serenity for day one of Sweet Magnolias Season 3 filming!”
According to multiple tweets, Norman Buckley, who has directed countless episodes of the show, is likely to return to the director’s chair. Buckley also serves as the show’s co-executive producer.
Assuming the show follows a similar filming schedule to season 2 (in production for 3-4 months), it should be completed by the fall, implying a mid-2023 release date for Netflix.
