Ratched Season 2: Will the Netflix Show Return?

ratched season 2

Ratched was the third significant Ryan Murphy show to debut solely on Netflix, and as you may already be aware, the series has been picked up for a second season. Here is what is currently known about Ratched season 2 given that it has been well over a year since season 1 of the programme debuted on Netflix and there has been little to no information on its future.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, a 1962 novel and subsequent film, has a prequel in the form of a television series. However, the TV series stands alone and may be appreciated without having read the book or seen the original film.

Sarah Paulson (who frequently collaborates on Ryan Murphy productions), Finn Wittrock, Cynthia Nixon, and Jon Jon Briones are also part of the cast. On September 18, 2020, the series debuted to rave reviews from critics and viewers.
Although it’s important to note that the series was expensive for Netflix, it was also a series that attracted nominations for prizes, winning 4 Primetime Emmys. According to reports, each episode of the show costs between $10 and $15 million.

One of the most popular Netflix Originals to date is the series. Within the first four weeks of the show’s premiere, 48 million individuals watched it, according to a number provided by Netflix. 972 million minutes were watched in the US alone according to Nielsen statistics, which were accessible for the title.
We may also determine the success of the show by looking at the top 10. According to Flixpatrol, the series ranked as the tenth-biggest TV show of 2022, which is fairly impressive considering how late in the year it debuted. The programme spent 28 days in the top 10 in the United States. It spent 39 days in the top 10 charts in the United Kingdom.

Netflix’s Ratched Season 2 Renewal Status

The show has at least eight additional episodes that were ordered before season 1 was released. Ratched had a two-season first order when it was chosen by Netflix in September 2017. We received one episode more than was originally promised, so it deviates little from the original press release, but as Deadline notes, “Ratched scored a two-season, 18-episode straight-to-series order.”

Ratched was acquired by Netflix from the now-defunct Fox 21 Television Studios along with The Politician, which received an upfront order as well (although that season is already over and a third is not currently anticipated).
As you may be aware, Ryan Murphy collaborates with Netflix as part of a larger agreement, but Ratched isn’t strictly covered by that agreement (or indeed The Politician).

What to hope from Ratched Season 2

As you’re presumably aware, Season 1 of Ratched finishes on a massive cliffhanger. Edmund Tolleson nearly escaped the mental institution, meeting up with Charlotte and Louise on their way to Mexico, but would he return to do the job?
Beyond that, DigitalSpy anticipates that numerous connections, such as Ratched and Briggs and Edmund and Charlotte, will be examined.

Another uncertainty is whether the series will continue through season 2. “We have an end game,” she said in an interview with OprahMag. There is a cultural ending to the narrative, yet so little is revealed about Mildred Ratched in the film and novel. Nothing is known about her past. She’s a one-dimensional being. It’s almost as though she isn’t a human.”
Some have theorised that the series may eventually end by crossing over with the 1975 film, although that is all speculation for the time being. Sarah Paulson spoke to The Wrap in 2020 and teased what we could anticipate from season 2 and beyond.

When will Ratched Season 2 begin filming?

Variety issued a brief update in early August 2022 to corroborate what we’ve already stated: there is no news. They reported in a lengthy interview with Sarah Paulson, “she [Paulson] tells Variety she doesn’t know if a second season is in the works or not.”
As previously stated, Ryan Murphy is still under contract with Netflix. With the exception of the 20th Television series, he has created 8 titles for Netflix exclusively, with close to 10 in development, including Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, The Watcher, and Mr. Harrigan’s Phone.

His contract with Netflix expires in June 2023, and he is widely expected to return to Disney. Is it unthinkable that if he does, Disney will acquire back the rights to Ratched and move season 2 there instead? We’ll have to see what happens.
