Morbius, a Sony film, was released in theatres on April 1st, and while it did not perform well at the box office, it has since become an online meme. The film is one of the first Sony films to be released on Netflix in the United States as part of a recently announced first-look partnership. Here’s what to expect and when Morbius will be available on Netflix.
Morbius was finally released in theatres on April 1st, 2022, after numerous delays. The film is set in the common Spider-Man Universe of Marvel Comics. Daniel Espinosa directed the film, which starred Jared Leto, Matt Smith, and Adria Arjona.
When will Netflix release Morbius?
Let’s start with the US, where the significant new Sony agreement will take effect on January 1, 2022. Uncharted and Umma’s release dates have given us a good sense of when new theatrical films from Sony will appear on Netflix, even though we’re still ironing out the specifics.
Both films will be available on Netflix, but not on a regular, predetermined schedule. Instead, Sony movies have so far been added to Netflix 120 or 147 days after their initial release, as was the case with Uncharted. That indicates that as of right now, we anticipate the movie to debut sometime between late July and August 2022.
On July 30th, if it becomes available on Netflix 120 days after its theatrical debut, it will. Unlike Netflix in the US, this incident occurred in India.
If it debuts on Netflix 168 days after its theatrical debut, as Uncharted did recently, it will do so on September 16, 2022.
But as we’ve seen so far, there isn’t currently a set amount of time between a movie’s theatrical release and its Netflix release. Therefore, as of today, we anticipate seeing the film on Netflix during the months of August and October 2022.
Morbius will remain on Netflix for 18 months before being transferred to Disney properties (Hulu being the most likely destination in this instance).
On August 1st, 2022, Netflix India added Morbius to their pay-1 window. It’s difficult to predict which nations outside of India will get Morbius in the future. We do know, however, that many Netflix areas do receive Sony films about two years after their theatrical debut.
For instance, Men in Black: International, which debuted in June 2019, was available on Netflix in Canada and the UK in May 2021. In that situation, Morbius will be added in 2024.
