Blood of My Blood, the Outlander prequel series, has been in development since Starz made the announcement. Before the sixth season’s premiere in February of last year, it was announced that STARZ was creating an Outlander prequel series. In addition to the prequel now continuing forward, it has also been formally stated that it would be called Outlander: Blood of My Blood. According to rumours, the television show would chronicle Jamie Fraser’s (Sam Heughan) parents’ romance.
Since its debut on STARZ in 2014, the historical fantasy series Outlander has broadcast six seasons; season seven is presently under production. Claire Randall, a woman who worked as a nurse for the British soldiers during World War II, is played by Caitriona Balfe in the television series, which is based on Diana Gabaldon’s book series of the same name. While in Scotland on her honeymoon with her new husband, Claire accidentally travels back in time and finds herself in the middle of a battle between the Highland Scots and the British Redcoats before falling in love with Jamie Fraser in an epic whirlwind romance.
Despite having nine volumes, a spin-off book series, novels, and short tales as sources for the main series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood will be a brand-new narrative for the series’ followers. The tale of Jamie’s parents hasn’t been fully developed because both characters passed away before the start of the novels and television series. After acting as Outlander’s showrunner and executive producer, Matthew B. Roberts has been hired to pen a prequel series. In addition, he will act as executive producer and showrunner for Outlander: Blood of My Blood. Along with Maril Davis, Ronald D. Moore, who created the cinematic version of Outlander, will executive produce the prequel under their Tall Ship Productions company. Gabaldon has also been hired to work as a consultant producer.
Kathryn Busby, President, Original Programming at Starz said, “Outlander is a riveting show that from season to season has captured the hearts of its fans around the world.” She continued, “We are excited to peel back the layers of this vibrant world to bring our audience the origin of where it all began. Matthew, Maril, and Ronald will continue to bring their excellent vision and creativity to this new iteration, and we can’t wait to see what happens next.”
