All Quiet on the Western Front is a Netflix adaption of German veteran infantryman and acclaimed author Erich Maria Remarque’s classic World War I novel of the same name. It was written in 1929 by Remarque and is still taught in schools around the world, owing to its sombre depiction of the futility of war.
According to Variety’s article on the film’s synopsis,

“The plot revolves around youths Paul Baumer and his pals Albert and Muller, who voluntarily serve in the German army, riding a wave of patriotic zeal that quickly fades as they meet the grim realities of life on the front.” Paul’s ideas about the adversary and the conflict’s rights and wrongs quickly collapse. However, as the clock approaches the Armistice, Paul must continue fighting until the finish, for no other reason than to satisfy the upper brass’ wish to conclude the war on a German assault.”

Daniel Bruhl, best known for his appearances in The Alienist, Rush, Captain America: Civil War, and Disney’s The Falcon and Winter Soldier, will star in the picture. Netflix will release the rest of the cast for All Quiet on the Western Front in May 2021. Felix Kammerer (Germany), Albrecht Schuch (Bad Banks), Aaron Hilmer (The Last Word), Edin Hasanovic (Skylines), Devid Striesow (Dignity), Michael Wittenborn (Merz gegen Merz), and Sebastian Hulk are among the newcomers (Dark).
