Dexter Mayhew and Emma Morley have just met in 1988. They both understand that the next day, after college graduation, they must part ways. They can’t stop thinking about each other after only one day together. Dex and Em begin to lead separate lives as the years pass, lives that are drastically different from the individuals they had hoped to become. But, unable to let go of that particular something that snatched them that first night, the two form an exceptional friendship. Over the course of 20 years, pictures of that connection have been shown on the same day each year—July 15th. Squabbles and disagreements, hopes and missed opportunities, laughter and sorrow await Dex and Em. And when the actual importance of this one pivotal day becomes clear, they must confront the nature of love and life itself.
The book was already turned into a feature film starring Anne Hathaway in 2011. It was released by Universal Pictures and grossed $59 million at the box office on a $15 million budget. It remains to be seen whether the new Netflix series will incorporate ideas from the film. Who is in the cast of One Day?
At the time of writing, three cast members have been announced for One Day: Ambika Mod, who was most recently seen in the British drama series This Is Going to Hurt as Shruti, which was recognised as her breakout performance, will play Emma Morley.
Leo Woodall, another rookie, has been cast as Dexter Mayhew. Woodall has already appeared on Netflix in the 2021 crime drama Cherry. In addition, he appeared in the HBO Original comedy series The White Lotus.
Sylvie has been cast as Eleanor Tomlinson. Tomlinson previously appeared in a Netflix film as Hayley in the wedding comedy Love Wedding Repeat. She is well recognised for her portrayal of Demelza Poldark in the iconic British historical drama Poldark.
When will One Day be available on Netflix?
Filming is now underway, having begun on July 4th, however it is uncertain when it will conclude.
Netflix hasn’t set a release date for One Day, but we can probably anticipate it to arrive around 2023. If we were to be speculative, we’d say July 15, 2023, because that’s when our key characters meet each year in the novel.
