Following the release of The Gray Man, Netflix and The Russo Brothers are returning for more, with Ryan Gosling reprising his role as the mysterious Sierra Six in the sequel. The film will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, and the script will be written by Stephen McFeeley, who co-wrote the original from the Mark Greaney novel with his Avengers scripting partner Christopher Markus.

Netflix surely took note when The Gray Man recently made its streaming premiere as the No. 1 movie in 92 different countries and received a 91 percent Rotten Tomatoes audience score. The first movie cost $200M to make, making it the most costly and ambitious Netflix production to date. Notably, it had a brief theatrical run a week prior to its Netflix debut.
The Russos will produce alongside Mike Larocca of AGBO, Joe Roth, and Jeffrey Kirschenbaum of Roth Kirschenbaum Films. What else do we know about the The Gray Man sequel on Netflix?

What is The Gray Man 2’s storyline?

Even though there were many alterations made from the original, The Gray Man was an adaptation of Mark Greaney’s 2009 spy thriller of the same name. The second book in the long-running book series, which has as many as ten instalments as of 2022 with another one scheduled for release in 2023, could be adapted for a Netflix follow-up to the movie.

Here is the plot summary for the second book, On Target.
The Gray Man, played by Ryan Gosling, aka Court Gentry, is back and once more on the run from both old allies and enemies. Gentry was duped by his CIA superiors four years ago. Sidorenko, a Russian arms dealer, an old friend, now forces him to carry out a mission against his will: kill Sudanese President Abboud, who is thought to be the cause of the Darfur slaughter. However, the CIA has other ideas for Abboud. With his merciless bosses on one side, his ex-friends who are now blackmailing him on the other, and a hopeless mission in front of him, Gentry would kill simply to survive this one.

Who is in The Gray Man 2’s cast?

Only Ryan Gosling’s Sierra Six/Court Gentry has been confirmed as a part of The Gray Man sequel as of July 2022. Ana de Armas is almost sure expected to return as Dani Miranda given where the story is at.
Future episodes of Sierra Six will probably continue to focus on Rege-Jean Page’s Denny Carmichael character. Suzanne Brewer, portrayed by Jessica Henwick, and Claire Fitzroy, portrayed by Julia Butters, may both return.

When will The Gray Man 2 be available on Netflix?

The sequel to Netflix’s The Gray Man is now in the early stages of development, with writer Stephen McFeeley writing scripts as we speak.
Given that the Russos will be filming The Electric State for Netflix until around April 2023, filming for The Gray Man 2 is unlikely to start until next summer. At this rate, filming will not commence until 2022.
Netflix hasn’t revealed any release dates for The Gray Man 2, but given its early development stage and the magnitude and complexity of the production, we can certainly assume a 2024 release date at the most.
