Beyonce is eager to reply to criticism she has just received for her most recent album, Renaissance. The troublesome phrase in her song Heated will be changed, her representatives announced in a statement on Monday. The song that contains the singer’s usage of the disparaging epithet “sp*z,” which was brought up by online supporters and activists, will be changed.
The word sp*z was attacked by listeners and activists in the song “Heated.” The phrase has been used in a disparaging manner to describe people with disabilities, particularly those who have cerebral palsy. The word meaning to “go crazy” or “fight” in African American Vernacular English, a form of English developed and spoken in Black communities.The Grammy-winning singer’s representative promised to modify the line in a statement to Insider.
After facing criticism for using the same term twice in the same song, Lizzo released “Grrrls” again in June with fresh lyrics. Some questioned whether Beyoncé was aware of the criticism of Lizzo two months prior. Lizzo at the time saud in an statement , “It’s been brought to my attention that there is a harmful word in my new song ‘GRRRLS.’ Let me make one thing clear: I never want to promote derogatory language.” She went on to add,at the time addressed the issue and wrote in her statement, “It’s been brought to my attention that there is a harmful word in my new song ‘GRRRLS.’ Let me make one thing clear: I never want to promote derogatory language.”
She added, “As a fat Black woman in America, I’ve had many hurtful words used against me so I overstand the power words can have (whether intentionally or in my case, unintentionally). As an influential artist I’m dedicated to being part of the change I’ve been waiting to see in the world.”
