The highly awaited seventh studio album by Beyoncé, Renaissance, was made available on Friday, July 29 via Columbia Records and Parkwood Entertainment. The pop icon published “Act 1” of Renaissance, a collection of 16 songs that featured BEAM on the song Energy and Grace Jones and Tems on the song Move. Her spouse Jay-Z, Drake, Skrillex, The-Dream, Syd, Lucky Daye, Donna Summer, Giorgio Moroder, Nile Rodgers, Nija Charles, 070 Shake, and other A-listers are featured as the writers and producers of the song.

For reportedly using an unauthorised sample from her 2000 song Get Along With You on the “Renaissance” album, Kelis, a singer, has criticised Beyoncé. The singer asserts that she was the first person on social media to discover about the sample on Bey’s song Energy. The Neptunes, also known as Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, are officially credited as the writers and producers of “Get Along With You.” They are also responsible for most of Kelis’ early recordings, including her 2003 signature hit “Milkshake.” The sample can be heard in the song “Energy” from Beyonce’s album “Renaissance.”

Kelis writes in a lengthy series of Instagram posts, “It’s not a collab it’s theft. My mind is blown too because the level of disrespect and utter ignorance of all 3 parties involved is astounding… I heard about this the same way everyone else did. Nothing is ever as it seems, some of the people in this business have no soul or integrity and they have everyone fooled.”

In the song Beyoncé sings, “You won’t break my soul,” Kelis says that maybe because she doesn’t have one. Kelis said in a comment on an Instagram post that ” some of the people in this business have no soul or integrity and they have everyone fooled.” The comment was made by Kelis using the “@BountyAndFull” account for her cookery blog, which first lauded the 42-year-old for being on Beyonce’s album.

Even though Kelis is the performing artist on “Get Along With You,” from a legal standpoint, two seasoned music industry attorneys tell Variety that it is unlikely but not impossible that Beyonce’s team would be contractually obligated to alert her to the sample: She is neither the credited writer of the work nor the copyright holder. In a Friday Instagram video, Kelis appears to accept this, saying that Beyonce should have informed her that she was sampling the song out of “human decency,” though she also noted that the incident was “truly not about Beyonce.”
