The creators of the acclaimed Netflix animated series Love, Death & Robots are currently hard at work creating The Goon, a feature-length animated picture based on the same-named comics by Eric Powell. Directors Tim Miller and Oscar winner Patrick Osborne of Love, Death & Robots will co-direct the animated film. Additionally, they are writing alongside comic book creator Eric Powell. Miller stated that he has been working on The Goon for 12 years and that after completing Love, Death & Robots, he made it a priority to bring The Goon to the public at the SDCC directors panel in July 2022. Producers include Peter Chernin, David Fincher, Jeff Fowler, Mike Richardson, and Jenno Topping.
To start production on The Goon, Miller and his Blur Studio used a Kickstarter campaign to earn $441,000, and they recently met their target.
Since it was funded, there haven’t been many updates. When asked about the movie’s progress in March 2019, Eric Powell responded to Polygon by saying: “Not that I can speak about at the moment, but it’s still going. It still has a very strong life. We are still very much alive and well despite the lengthy procedure I’ve had to deal with. Hopefully, we’ll be able to update everyone shortly.
What’s The Goon’s storyline?
An enormous orphan who was reared by his aunt, a tough woman for a carnival, is the subject of the Goon comic. When Labrazio, a gangster, shoots the aunt, the goon murders Labrazio and takes over the business.
Who is The Goon’s voice cast?
Clancy Brown, whose voice work has appeared in such productions as SpongeBob, Detroit: Become Human, Invincible, Marvel’s What If?, and many others, will provide the voice for The Goon’s title character.
Paul Giamatti, an Oscar contender whose famous appearances include those in Cinderella Man, Sideways, 12 Years a Slave, and more, will work with Brown. In The Goon, Giamatti will portray Franky. Before the film was transferred to Netflix, both were involved in the project for several years. Franky’s voice is provided by Giamatti. The two were notable co-stars in Showtime’s Billions.
When will The Goon be available on Netflix?
The Goon on Netflix is still in the planning stages.
By July 2022, Osborne and Eric Powell, the comic’s creator, were collaborating on the script, according to Tim Miller. It goes without saying that there is still a lot to do. The Emmy-winning Netflix series Love, Death, and Robots has eight episodes produced by Blur Studio, including the following ones:
Sonnie’s Edge (Volume 1 – Episode 1)
Suits (Volume 1 – Episode 4)
Shape-Shifters (Volume 1 – Episode 10)
Ice Age (Volume 1 – Episode 16) – Collaboration with Digic Pictures and Atomic Fiction
Pop Squad (Volume 2 – Episode 3)
Life Hutch (Volume 2 – Episode 7)
The Drowned Giant (Volume 2 – Episode 8)
Bad Travelling (Volume 3 – Episode 2)
Swarm (Volume 3 – Episode 6)
Netflix hasn’t provided any release information for The Goon, but given that it is still in the very early stages of development and that animation normally takes a while, we should only anticipate a 2024 release date.
