Lupita Nyong’o recently discussed filming the highly anticipated second instalment of the Black Panther trilogy without the main character Chadwick Boseman in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. The actor lost his battle with colon cancer in August 2020 after a personal battle. The most lovely tribute to the late actor could be seen in the most recent Black Panther: Wakanda Forever video.

Nyong’o said, “For us as a cast, having lost our king, Chadwick Boseman, that was a lot to process, and in many ways, we’re still processing it.” She continued, “When you lose someone, I don’t know when you stop missing them. And of course, we felt it so much, making this film without him.” She went on to add that despite the film being “a doozy of a few years for everybody,” she’s “very proud” that the cast was able “to make this film against all odds” and called the act “a powerful statement unto itself.” She went on to add that despite the film being “a doozy of a few years for everybody,” she’s “very proud” that the cast was able “to make this film against all odds” and called the act “a powerful statement unto itself.”

Additionally, Lupita revealed that the entire process of filming was rather “therapeutic” and said, “It restored a sense of hope for me in making it, and I think we’ve expanded the world of Wakanda in ways that will blow people’s minds — not just Wakanda, but the Black Panther world. It’s gonna blow people’s minds, and I just cannot wait until it’s not a secret anymore.”

For those who are unaware, the next movie’s synopsis claims that the characters “After King T’Challa’s passing, the people of Wakanda must struggle to save their country from interfering foreign forces. The heroes must work together with the aid of War Dog Nakia (Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) in order to establish a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda as the Wakandans struggle to accept their next chapter.”
