Diego Luna and Gael Garca Bernal will feature in a Searchlight Television-produced Spanish-language limited series on Hulu. The two will play the lead roles in Marco Ramirez’s drama series “La Maquina.” The pair will star in the new Spanish-language boxing series La Máquina on Hulu, which will be made by Disney’s Searchlight Pictures television division.

It centres on an old boxer (Garca Bernal), whose cunning manager (Luna) earns him one final opportunity to win a championship. But in order to survive till nighttime combat, they must avoid a shadowy underground force. Producing will be done under the La Corriente del Golfo label by both Luna and Garca Bernal. Along with writing, Ramirez will also act as executive producer and showrunner.

With Gabriel Ripstein helming La Máquina, Daredevil’s Marco Ramirez will enter the fray as the showrunner. The limited series will be made by Gerardo Gatica, Leandro Halperin, Adam Fishbach, and Luna and Bernal under their La Corriente del Golfo label. Bernal will play an elderly boxer who is given one final opportunity to win a championship by his cunning manager Luna. However, in order to get to the fight, Bernal and Luna must negotiate a mysterious underworld force. Maybe there’s more to this limited series than just boxing.

The entire series will be directed by Gabriel Ripstein. Producers on the project will be Adam Fishbach, Leandro Halperin, and Gerardo Gatica. The studio is called Searchlight TV. Both the upcoming Hulu comedy series “History of the World Part II” and the recently released critically acclaimed Hulu limited series The Dropout were produced by Searchlight.

In the next Andor series, which will begin production for its second season later this year, Luna is expected to reprise his role as Cassian Andor. Since it was revealed last year that Bernal had been hired for a role in Marvel’s upcoming Halloween special, an adaptation of the comic book Werewolf by Night, Bernal will also be moving to Disney+.
