“Slow death is not pleasurable at all. Thousands of kilometres separate you from your loved ones. You are unable to bid them farewell.” Broad Peak, a Polish mountain climbing thriller from director Leszek Dawid, has a teaser trailer that has been released on Netflix. This Netflix animated movie The Summit of the Gods would make a fantastic live-action double feature with this Polish production, which is receiving a global streaming release. The true story of Maciej Berbeka, a great Polish mountaineer and member of the Ice Warriors organisation, who attempted to ascend one of the most treacherous mountains, is the basis for the film Broad Peak.
Price is irrelevant while battling for honour. To clear his name, Berbeka returns to one of the world’s most treacherous mountains, Broad Peak near the Pakistani border (see Google Maps). Hard choices that will forever alter his life must be made before he can venture again into the perilous Karakoram mountain region. starring Maja Ostaszewska, Dawid Ogrodnik, Marcin Czarnik, and Lukasz Simlat, while Maciej is played by Ireneusz Czop. This one has a nice appearance.
In 1988, Maciej Berbeka undertakes the first winter ascent of Broad Peak and narrowly avoids death. The expedition’s leader, Andrzej Zawada, declares a major accomplishment. When they get back to Poland, they discover that Maciej only “achieved” the Rocky Summit, which is 23 metros lower than the real top that is one hour away. Berbeka withdraws from mountaineering because he is angry over his companions’ lies. He answers a call from Krzysztof Wielicki, who also took part in the initial expedition, 24 years later. Krzysztof convinces Maciej to join the upcoming Broad Peak expedition by saying, “We have to finish what we started.”
Maciej finally chooses to attempt the summit after much deliberation. Polish filmmaker Leszek Dawid, who previously directed the movies My Name Is Ki and You Are God as well as some recent TV work, notably the series “Uklad,” is in charge of directing Broad Peak.
