The violent, biker-themed FX drama Mayans M.C., which is set in the same fictitious world as Sons of Anarchy, has been renewed for a fifth season as revealed at San Diego Comic-Con. Mayans M.C. made a significant appearance at San Diego Comic-Con for a special screening and panel with all of its stars and creatives, fresh off of its Season 4 finale. It was assumed going into the season that the FX drama, which is still among the finest on the network, would be renewed for a fifth season to continue its story of motorcycle outlaws.

It was made known during the panel that the show would formally return for Season 5 in 2023. FX Entertainment’s Nick Grad, President of Original Programming, commented on the renewal, “The Mayans have battled for respect, territory and power through four intense seasons that have set the stage for an explosive fifth season that will test their very survival under ‘EZ’s’ newly claimed leadership. Elgin James and the creative team, the brilliant cast, crew and our partners at 20th Television have kept fans coming back for more and we are ready to take that ride with them for another season.”

The series is produced by Elgin James, centres on Ezekiel Reyes (JD Pardo), a member of the Mayans M.C. charter near the border of California and Mexico. EZ, his brother Angel (Clayton Cardenas), and the rest of the Santo Padre M.C. face retaliation from other chapters after an unsuccessful attempt to align under one King. EZ was once the golden boy with the American Dream in his grasp. After a betrayal, EZ and Angel’s relationship with their father Felipe (Edward James Olmos) has deteriorated.

Clayton Cardenas, Danny Pino, Sarah Bolger, Emilio Rivera, Carla Baratta, Michael Irby, Raoul Max Trujillo, Richard Cabral, Frankie Loyal, Joseph Lucero, Vincent Vargas, Edward James Olmos, Gino Vento, and JR Bourne are among the Mayans M.C. cast members who appear alongside Pardo. Manny Montana, a former member of the Good Girls, joined the cast in Season 4, although for just one episode. Along with Hilton Smith, James and Sutter serve as the show’s executive producers.
