Everything We Know So Far About Netflix’s Assassins Creed Series

Assassins

Like many other video game franchises, Netflix is investing heavily in Assassin’s Creed and has several projects in the works. Here is all we currently know about Assassin’s Creed on Netflix. Please bookmark this page because we will be updating it over time. Assassin’s Creed has dominated popular culture for more than ten years, spawning eleven video games, several books, and even a major motion picture.

The collaboration between Netflix and Ubisoft, the publisher of the series’ video games, for additional projects under the IP, was first publicly revealed in October 2020. But in actuality, there have been continuing discussions about an AC series at Netflix for years, with the earliest reports appearing as early as 2016. Additionally, an anime series with Adi Shanker as the director was revealed back in May 2017 as well, but it’s unclear if that will air on Netflix.

With a sizable future slate of adaptations, Netflix has been making significant inroads in the video game IP over the previous few years. They’ve also collaborated with Ubisoft on other projects, including as the upcoming Beyond Good & Evil Netflix adaptation, Splinter Cell, and The Division.

What we know so far about the animated Assassin’s Creed projects on Netflix

Beyond that initial announcement, little is known about the animated Assassin’s Creed series. We also don’t know if the Adi Shanker project, which was unveiled in 2017, is still active or if they’re beginning over.
When asked about the animated series in the aforementioned Eurogamer interview (again in April 2021), Azazia stated: “It’s still alive – it’s the guys that brought us the Raving Rabbids TV programme who have also announced the Far Cry animated series.” Those men are completely focused on that. It’s not the next item in their pipeline, but it’s still in their hands. It’s not been canned.”

The Far Cry animated series in question, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Vibe, was revealed in October 2019. We’re still waiting two years later for the Far Cry animated series, which is ahead of Assassin’s Creed in development, so we’re probably still some way off.

Who is involved in the Assassin’s Creed projects on Netflix?

So far, executive producers Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik have been linked to multiple Assassin’s Creed projects. Jason Altman is the SVP, Head of Film and Television at Ubisoft, but he has spent the majority of his career in the video gaming industry. In January 2017, he began his new TV role. He’s worked on Mythic Quest and the upcoming Werewolves Within as a producer.

Danielle Kreinik has worked in the entertainment industry for a long time, having worked at Thunderbird Entertainment and developing Some Assembly Required for Netflix and Endgame for Hulu. She has been with Ubisoft as Head of Television Development since July 2017 and has worked on Mythic Quest for Apple TV+. Kreinik is said to have left Ubisoft to serve as Senior Vice President of Television at Jerry Bruckheimer Television.
