ABC’s Abbott Elementary has become a breakout success, with high viewership and favourable reviews. The series received several Emmy nominations in various different categories. Quinta Brunson is the creator, executive producer, and star of the school comedy, which received a rare 22-episode full-season order for Season 2, according to Deadline. The second season of the series will premiere on September 22.
The second season of the show would have even more episodes, it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con. Mr. Johnson (William Stanford Davis) was also raised to a series regular this time around. The well-liked show has been ordered by ABC for a rare, full 22-episode run. The series, which had a 13-episode first season when it aired in January as a midseason replacement, surprised audiences by becoming the network’s top comedy among adults 18-49 last season. It was always intended to receive a straight-out full-season pickup when it was revived for a second season in March.
Given the number of Emmy nominations the show received, the announcement of a second season is not particularly shocking. Along with numerous accolades for the entire show, Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, and Sheryl Lee Ralph also received individual acting honours for the series. It’s nice to know that Abbott Elementary will have more episodes in Season 2 since, as someone who adores mockumentary comedy, it feels natural for Abbott Elementary to continue that pattern.
The next second season’s plot elements are being kept under wraps, although Brunson hinted at a cameo in the season premiere that the creators are quite enthusiastic about, according to Deadline. Brunson said, “We spent a lot of the first season showing what this show is capable of. Now we get to have some fun. We’ve done all the building, and now we get to have some of these fun bottle episodes.” Brunson reacted with “OK, there you go” when executive producer Patrick Schumacker revealed that Season 2 would also include additional episodes. Compared to the first season, this one has more episodes.
