The fictional 1980s hit song “Angel in Flip Flops,” performed by Steve Martin’s Charles-Haden Savage in Only Murders in the Building, has a real-life music video and single release. The two-minute song, which contains an intriguing animated music video provided by Hulu is about a man finding a woman who songs promises to him.

The complete version of “Angel in Flip-Flops,” that Charles wrote for his adored crime drama Brazzos, is now available thanks to the Only Murders team. The official Only Murders Twitter account shared puzzle-piece hints leading up to Episode 4 that created a picture of the Angel in Flip-Flops cover art. Though it now appears more likely that the campaign was teasing the release of Charles’ song, performed by Steve Martin, fans first questioned whether the Twitter riddle suggested the record was pertinent to solving the most recent murder in Arconia.

The song was a massive hit in Germany until the fall of the Berlin Wall, according to the show’s legend, and has been sampled by like 50 rap stars including Post Malone, Missy Elliott, and Del the Funky Homosapien. The song’s lyrics include things like “She’s an angel in flip flops, stopping my teardrops, (Pittah pottah), kisses like pop rocks,” which were written by Martin and co-executive producer Kirker Butler and produced by Paul Shaffer.

The series’ co-creator and showrunner, John Hoffman, announced in a public statement, “When the notion came up in our writers’ room of Charles-Haden Savage, at the height of his success with his original “Brazzos” series, maybe having recorded an album that did really well in Germany before the Berlin Wall fell, we knew we had to talk further about it immediately! And so we did.”

Three strangers who share an interest with a true crime podcast are the subjects of a Hulu series featuring Martin as Charles-Haden Savage, Martin Short as Oliver Putnam, and Selena Gomez as Mabel Mora. The first season, which debuted last year, instantly won over viewers all around the world thanks to its unique twist on the murder genre, catchy soundtrack, and constantly amusing character dynamics. The season went on to become the most watched comedy series ever on Hulu, and this year it has been nominated for numerous Emmys. The streaming service has already approved a Season 3, even though Season 2 just recently made its premiere.
