The Handmaid’s Tale’s fifth season trailer debuted recently and depicts what happened after Fred Waterford passed away in season four. The Handmaid’s Tale, an adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s 1985 book of the same name, debuted in 2017 on Hulu. The acclaimed series, which starred Elisabeth Moss as June Osbourne, immediately rose to the top of the streaming service’s offers.

The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 was released last year, and it showed how the conflict between Canada and Gilead had reached unprecedented heights. The Handmaid’s Tale, which also features Ann Dowd, Madeline Brewer, Bradley Whitford, Max Minghella, Fagbenle, Samira Wiley, and Sam Jaeger, is directed by Bruce Miller.

The Handmaid’s Tale was renewed for a fifth season in 2020, before the start of season 4, and season 4 ended with Commander Fred Waterford being brutally murdered by June, Emily (Alexis Bledel), and their fellow former handmaids (Joseph Fiennes). The Handmaid’s Tale season 5 was officially announced, although the show hasn’t released many specifics about the future episodes. In addition, Bledal announced her departure from the show prior to season 5, while Christine Ko joined the cast as Lily, a commander of the Resistance.

Serena’s authority over Gilead and Canada appears to have expanded as a result of June’s activities in season 5. Although June escaped Gilead in season 4 and reconciled with her husband Luke (O.T. Fagbenle), the ongoing tension between the two women appears to be reaching a breaking point as the trailer reveals June grabbing for a revolver as she confronts Waterford’s widow.
