The 2011 film Warrior, directed by Gavin O’Connor, is being turned into a TV series at Paramount+. Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton’s characters in O’Connor’s sports drama are two MMA fighters and estranged brothers who settle their family feud in the ring. Despite not being a huge box office success, the first Warrior film was well-received by reviewers, and cast member Nick Nolte received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. O’Connor once suggested that a Warrior sequel movie might be made, but such ideas were never carried forward.

Now, as Deadline this week learned, a Warrior TV show is formally underway at Paramount+. The 10-episode limited series was co-written by Adair Cole and O’Connor, who will return to direct and produce the adaptation. The Conlons’ narrative will not be continued in the upcoming Warrior episode. Instead, it will centre on four fresh competitors two men and two women as they contend for the Sparta championship.

One of the roles is played by former UFC champion Daniel Cormier, a widower who fights to pay his late wife’s medical costs. Jessica Flores, whose battle journey is about realising her worth, is supposedly being portrayed by Jane the Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez. The two additional leads are being looked for.

It appears that the heart and spirit of O’Connor’s original Warrior movie are still present, especially in light of the new TV show’s focus on the unique stories of the warriors. Warrior was more than just a movie about competitive athletics; it was also a touching drama about the personal problems of its protagonists, which gave the picture its emotional core.

Similar to how the new TV series appears to be focusing on the complicated problems and relationships faced by the main characters, viewers can identify with the fighters’ predicaments and support them as they enter the ring once they are familiar with their circumstances. Now that the project will likely round up its cast, viewers should keep an eye out for any casting updates for the Warrior TV show.
