Dr. Death, an award-winning anthology series from Peacock, is returning for more episodes. The streaming service declared the return of its true-crime programme, based on the Wondery podcast, for a second season. Season 2 will centre on a different subject, surgeon Paolo Macchiarini, in contrast to Season 1’s focus on Dr. Christopher Duntsch (played by Joshua Jackson).

Macchiarini, a delightful surgeon whose inventive methods earned him the moniker “Miracle Man,” will be the main focus of Season 2. The boundaries between what is personal and what is professional start to blur when Benita Alexander, an investigative journalist, seeks a report on Macchiarini. A group of doctors from around the world make some stunning findings when she learns the lengths Macchiarini will go to keep his secrets hidden, which only raises further concerns about who the Miracle Man truly is.

The first season of Dr. Death, which debuted last year, centred on Dr. Duntsch, a disgraced neurosurgeon who over the course of his career killed and severely injured more than 38 people. As the death toll increased, two surgeons and the Assistant District Attorney banded together to put an end to Dr. Duntsch’s torment. The show got favourable reviews and received both a certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a Critics Choice nomination for Best Limited Series.

Ashley Patrick Macmanus, the showrunner from Season 1, will be replaced by Michel Hoban as writer and showrunner for Season 2. Along with Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, and Taylor Latham of Escape Artists, as well as Aaron Hart, Hernan Lopez, and Marshall Lewy of Wondery, both will serve as executive producers. The film will be produced by UCP, a unit of Universal Studio Group. The casting has not yet been announced.
