Everything We Know So Far About Lee Daniels’ Netflix Movie The Deliverance

the

The Deliverance, originally known as The Deliverance, is now in production on Netflix. It is a feature film based on the chilling tale of Latoya Ammons and her family that was widely publicised in the US back in 2014.
The horror movie will be directed by writer-director Lee Daniels, who revised the original script. Empire, Star, Good People, and The United States vs. Billie Holiday are among his accomplishments. According to reports, Netflix shelled out a sizable sum of $65M to acquire the film’s rights. The movie was previously known as Demon House until July 2022, but it is now known as The Deliverance, probably to avoid issues with a 2018 film of the same name.

Along with Daniels, Todd Crites and Jackson Nguyen of Turn Left Productions, as well as EPs Greg Renker and Gregoire Gensollen, are producing. Along with Daniels, Elijah Bynum and David Coggeshall are also contributing to the script. Here is everything else we know about The Deliverance on Netflix:

What’s The Deliverance’s storyline?

Latoya Ammons and her family are the subjects of the thriller, whose life rights allowed for the creation of the movie. They allege that they have been under demonic possession for more than two years and counting. Ammons and her family’s accounts, which Department of Child Services (DCS), Gary (Indiana) Police Department, and hospital workers saw and recorded, attracted international media attention.

Over two years ago, she started to notice strange things happening in her house, such swarms of flies around her porch in the winter and unexplained creaking sounds in her basement. Her oldest daughter accidentally hovered over her bed, and medical personnel saw her middle son glide backward on the floor, wall, and ceiling as the events developed to possessive instances.

Relativity claims that the DCS case manager saw her youngest son growling, his eyes rolling back, teeth showing, and locking his hands around his older brother’s throat while having no memory of the occurrence. Initial exorcism endeavours and psychological investigations were unable to explain or put an end to the strange incidents.

Who is in The Deliverance’s cast?

Latoya Ammons, the protagonist of this tale, will be portrayed by singer-songwriter Andra Day. Her persona is thought to now go by the moniker Ebony. After starring as the renowned Billie Holiday, a four-time Grammy winner, in the 2021 film The United States vs. Billie Holiday, this is Day’s second significant film project. Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures, The Help) was supposed to join Day at first, but she was later replaced (more on this in a second).

The initial announcement was completed by Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction, The Wife), Rob Morgan (Stranger Things, Daredevil), Caleb McLaughlin (Stranger Things), and Aunjanue Ellis (King Richard, Lovecraft Country).
According to a Deadline article from April 2022, Mo’Nique has been chosen to play Octavia Spencer’s replacement in the film. After their 2009 film Precious, the actress and Lee Daniels were reunited. When she publicly argued with Netflix about discrimination, which was eventually resolved in June 2022, her casting occurred.
We learned about even more cast members for The Deliverance in July 2022.

Omar Epps (Fatal Affair, Traffik)
Demi Singleton (King Richard, Godfather of Harlem)
Miss Lawrence (Bros, The United States vs. Billie Holiday)
Anthony B. Jenkins (Chicago Med, The Wonder Years)
