Cast members have been added to Disney+’s first Spanish original series, Balenciaga, a fashion biography of the renowned designer. Belén Cuesta and Gemma Whelan are among the new cast members, according to Deadline

.In the popular Netflix series Money Heist, Cuesta portrayed Julia Martinez, popularly known as Manila. The actress will play Fabiola de Mora y Aragón, who wed King Baudouin of Belgium, in this project. Cristóbal Balenciaga, the designer on whose life the biography is based, created the wedding dress worn by Fabiola for her nuptials in 1960.

Whelan, who portrayed Yara Greyjoy in HBO’s Game of Thrones, will be Prudence Glynn, a reporter for The Times. The two actors join Albert San Juan, who portrays the renowned fashion designer Balenciaga, in the lead role. San Juan expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work on the project, saying, “Being part of this project is an honor: for the character, the script, the directors and the team in general. It’s a challenge for everyone. As it always is, but this time a little more. It’s almost like making three films in four months, in different languages ​​and with an interval of a few decades between the beginning and the end. In a nutshell: it’s an emotion!”

The story of the son of a seamstress and a fisherman, who overcame expectations and challenges to become one of the most renowned fashion designers the world has ever seen, will be told in this six-part drama. Along with the announcement of Cuesta and Whelan joining the group, Patrice Thibaud, Josean Bengoetxea, Cecilia Solaguren, Adam Quintero, and Elvira Cuadrupani were also welcomed to the cast.

Lourdes Iglesias, who has won numerous Goya Awards, collaborated with Mari Goenaga, Jon Garao, and Aitor Arregi to develop Balenciaga. In an effort to accomplish a goal of 60 original series by 2024, Disney+ has launched its first original Spanish series. The company has announced 21 projects, five of which are unscripted works and the remaining 20 are scripted, with target markets in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands. By the beginning of the year, Disney+ plans to add more original shows to its platform, including Pam & Tommy and Welcome to Wrexham.

More than 85 sets throughout numerous European nations, including Spain and France, will be used to film the biopic. Madrid, the Basque Country, and Navarre are among the territories in those countries that will be involved in the initiative, as are Paris, Toulouse, and Bordeaux for the French. Thomas Coumans, Gabrielle Lazure, Isabelle Bres, Anna-Victoire Olivier, and Eva Bley are additional cast members.There is no specific release date for the series, which is presently under production.
