The most recent actor to join the cast of the upcoming political drama series The Girls on the Bus on HBO Max is Christina Elmore (Insecure), reported by Deadline. Elmore will take on the role of Kimberlyn Kendrick, a Reagan Republican with Ivy League training and a campaign reporter for Liberty News.

She joins Melissa Benoist and Natasha Behnam, who were previously mentioned as cast members. The show centres on Sadie McCarthy (Benoist), a reporter who aspires to be like Timothy Crouse’s protagonist in Boys on the Bus and who is determined to cover a presidential election. Sadie develops friendships with three female candidates Grace, Lola (Behnam), and Kimberlyn after hitting the campaign trail (Elmore). The official logline for the movie reads, “Despite their differences, these women become a finding family with a front-row seat to the greatest soap opera in town: the struggle for the White House.”

Chasing Hillary: Ten Years, Two Presidential Campaigns, and One Intact Glass Ceiling, written by Amy Chozick in 2018, served as the source material for the comedy character-driven drama television series. The New York Times Bestseller details the ten years that political reporter Chozick spent following Hillary Clinton‘s two presidential campaigns, in 2008 and 2016. Chozick and Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries, Legacies), who developed The Girls on the Bus, will serve as executive producers alongside Rina Mimoun. The sitcom will also be executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden, all of whom work for Berlanti Productions.

Recent works by Elmore include TNT’s The Last Ship and the Showtime series Twenties. The most recent episode of Mayan M.C. on FX and American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules, the fifth movie in the American Pie Presents series, both featured Behnam. Benoist recently played Kara Danvers, aka Supergirl, in The CW’s Supergirl, which ended after six seasons last year. As part of a larger agreement with Warner Bros. Television, Benoist will also produce the series.
