British actress Marisa Abela has joined the cast, reportedby Deadline. With her recent recurring appearance in the British drama series COBRA, Abela broke onto the limelight. She is now acting in the HBO and BBC drama Industry, which received critical praise and whose second season is set to debut later this summer.
Abela will soon be seen in the drama She Is Love with Haley Bennett, Sam Riley, and Michael Smiley as well as the upcoming thriller Freegard starring Gemma Arterton, Sarah Goldberg, and James Norton. There is currently secrecy about Abela’s function in Barbie. Apart from the fact that the movie revolves around the Mattel doll of the same name, little is known about the plot. It is known that Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling will play Barbie and Ken, respectively, in the movie.
Greta Gerwig, who has been nominated for an Academy Award, will next direct Barbie. Lady Bird and Little Women, two critically praised movies that Gerwig has directed, are examples. Along with fellow Academy Award nominee Noah Baumbach, known for the movies The Squid and the Whale and Marriage Story, Gerwig also co-wrote the script for the movie. The duo previously collaborated on the widely praised Francis Ha.
The ensemble of Barbie is quickly establishing itself as one of the most illustrious in recent years. Along with Robbie and Gosling, Abela also appears in the movie alongside America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Will Ferrell, Ariana Greenblatt, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Hari Nef, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman, Ncuti Gatwa, Emerald Fennell, Sharon Rooney, Scott Evans, Ana Cruz Kayne, Connor Swindells.
Robbie and Tom Ackerley are collaborating with David Heyman of Heyday Films and Robbie Brenner of Mattel to develop Barbie under their LuckyChap Entertainment production label. Executive producers on the project include Ynon Kreiz of Mattel and Josey McNamara of LuckyChap. Barbie is presently being filmed. The movie is slated to premiere on July 21, 2023.
