Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown has been cast in the Russo Brothers’ upcoming sci-fi film The Electric State, according to Netflix. The film will be a live-action adaptation of Simon Stlenhag’s 2018 illustrated novel, which follows the adventures of an orphaned teen who travels through a retro-futuristic American West in search of her missing younger brother. A mysterious droid and an eccentric drifter accompany her. In addition to Brown, Chris Pratt is in talks to join the film, reuniting him with the Russo Brothers after their work on Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.

Long-time collaborators Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely will also pen the script, having worked on the brothers’ Marvel titles as well as the upcoming Gray Man, starring Chris Evans. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film was initially pitched to Universal but was ultimately sold to Netflix after the former refused a massive budget of $200 million USD.
The Electric State does not yet have a release date, but production is set to begin in October.

The story is written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who both worked with the Russos on The Avengers and Captain America. The film is set to follow the main plot of the book, telling the story of a teenage girl named Michelle who embarks on a journey with her brother’s robot.
