Season 2 of Alice in Borderland: Netflix Release Date & What We Know So Far

Alice in Borderland

The Japanese series Alice in Borderland (as it is known in Japan) was quickly renewed by Netflix at the end of 2020, and season 2 is set to premiere in December 2022. Here’s an updated look at everything we know about Alice in Borderland season 2.
Alice in Borderland is a Netflix Original live-action adaptation of Hara Aso’s manga of the same name. The series is directed by Shinsuke Sato and written by Yasuko Kuramitsu.

Netflix Renewal Status for Season 2 of Alice in Borderland

Within two weeks of Alice in Borderland’s global release, Netflix swiftly renewed the series (and as an early Christmas gift, no less—on Christmas Eve). Numerous Netflix social media pages from all across the world made the announcement.
The show appears to be one of the select few that has been able to cross international boundaries and gain popularity in other nations.
Within the first 28 days, 18 million households watched the first season, according to Netflix.
Additionally, according to FlixPatrol’s top 10 monitoring statistics, the show did well in nations including Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Japan, and Hong Kong. In most places outside of Asia, the series spent many days, including four days in Canada.

What can we expect from the second season of Alice in Borderland?

The first season covered roughly 31 chapters of the manga, with another 33 chapters to go.
Arisu, the series’ hero, had been dealt a bad hand throughout the first season. Having arrived with two of his friends, Korube and Chota, they eventually sacrificed themselves to ensure Arisu had the best chance of progressing.
The season’s climax occurred during the ten of hearts game, in which the beachgoers had to correctly guess who the “Witch” was. Many competitors were killed in the confusion of the game after much infighting, but Arisu was able to correctly predict the identity of the Witch, revealing it to be Momoka.

The contestants burned the witch’s body on a campfire after Niragi destroyed the beach home, which ended the game.
Then, Momoka and Asahi were shown to be dealers rather than rivals by Arisu and Usagi. The dealers’ job was to ruin games in return for visas. Arisu and Usagi were able to find the underground control room thanks to the proof on Momoka’s phone, but the people they believed to be the gamemasters had been killed.

In the last seconds, a woman named Mira comes on the screens and informs everyone that the games have just begun and asks them to take part in the forthcoming round. Competition participants saw blimps soaring around Tokyo with cards suspended from beneath them as they surfaced.
Arisu and Usagi still have a lot more games to play before they can finally escape. If the two are to have any chance of unravelling the mystery surrounding the planet and identifying the gamemasters that control it, they will have to keep playing the games.

Season 2 of Alice in Borderland will feature new cast members

Six new cast members will join Alice in Borderland’s second season, it was recently revealed.
The King of Clubs, Kyuuma Ginji, has been cast as Tomohisa “Yamapi” Yamashita. Yamapi, a former member of the Japanese boyband NEWS, is a successful solo performer and idol. Since 1998, Yamapi has played various roles in dramas, but his most well-known work is as the recurrent character Aizawa Kosaku in the medical drama Code Blue.

The actor Yuri Tsunematsu has been chosen to play Akane Heiya. The actress most recently appeared as Nogi Mariko in the second season of the Japanese comedy The Naked Director.

Kotoko Shiga’s part has been cast with Sato Honami.

When will Netflix release Alice in Borderland season 2?

Due to possible easter eggs observed in the last minutes of season 1, series fans did first speculate on a 2021 release date. Even though it was always extremely unlikely (if not impossible) that the show would return in 2021, there were numerous buildings with advertisements for the year 2021 as the blimps passed overhead.
According to the production company’s website, which posted a casting call for extras, filming did start in the middle of July. The show won’t finish shooting for season 2 until late December 2021, according to their website.
Season 2 would debut in December 2022, it was announced in November 2021 during the Netflix Festival Japan.
