Those who enjoyed the 2019 detective film “Knives Out” are in for a treat: a sequel will be released on Netflix over the “Christmas season.”
For the time being, we’re taking it as year end, with online reports putting it in late 2022 as well. Netflix refers it it as a “follow-up” to the original film rather than a sequel.
The new film is named “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” but nothing more is known about it other than its cast and a hazy synopsis: “Detective Benoit Blanc journeys to Greece to peel back the layers of a mystery featuring a new ensemble of colourful suspects.”

While Rian Johnson is still writing and directing, it looks that Chris Evans and Ana de Armas are not in the cast. Daniel Craig reprises his role as Detective Benoit Blanc, with newcomers Edward Norton and Dave Bautista.

The title is Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which is a hint as to what Netflix is planned. Beyond this upcoming sequel, the phrase “a Knives Out mystery” becomes an easy way to title every entry in an expanding Knives Out franchise. A third film is already in the works.

According to a teaser trailer released accompanied Johnson’s title revelation, Glass Onion will be available this holiday season.
“In the follow-up to Rian Johnson’s Knives Out, Detective Benoit Blanc travels to Greece to peel back the layers of a mystery involving a new cast of colourful characters,” according to a new narrative synopsis.
Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista will play the suspects. Netflix previously revealed a glimpse of them in a teaser trailer for the streamer’s 2022 film slate.
