After gamers speculated that a Dragon Age series was in the works, Netflix has confirmed Dragon Age: Absolution, an animated series based on the iconic Bioware video game brand, will premiere in December. The trailer above also gives us our first glimpse at the series. The series was unveiled by Netflix and Bioware on Friday during the streamer’s Geeked Week event.

Dragon Age: Absolution, developed in conjunction with BioWare, is set in Tevinter and offers an ensemble of new characters inspired by Dragon Age lore, including elves, wizards, knights, Qunari, Red Templars, demons, and other special surprises. More information will be released later.

The series, produced by Red Dog Culture House, will be directed by Mairghread Scott.
Since its debut in 2009, the award-winning video game franchise has immersed players in the world of Thedas, introducing them to complex narrative, compelling characters, and gorgeous and deadly locations to explore. Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, the next anticipated Dragon Age game, will be a single player centred experience that expands on the journey.

So far, little is known about the show. Red Dog Culture House is producing it, and Mairghread Scott is the showrunner. She previously worked on a variety of animated Transformers series as well as the animated Guardians of the Galaxy show. We know it’s being developed in partnership with BioWare, who unveiled the title of the next Dragon Age game, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, last week. Like Dreadwolf, the cast, characters, and even the plot of Absolution are currently unknown.

Dragon Age: Absolution will premiere in December 2022, and perhaps we’ll learn more about it then.
