Pre-production:

Rob Zombie was producing a feature picture remake of the 1960s television series The Munsters, according to different news reports in March 2021. The project was also rumoured to be in development as a simultaneous theatrical and Peacock exclusive feature in April of the same year.

In June 2021, Zombie confirmed these talks, revealing that his next feature film will be The Munsters, in which he will serve as both writer and director. Zombie, a lifelong admirer of the show, revealed that he has been working on a feature for more than two decades. Sheri Moon Zombie, the filmmaker’s wife, announced in July 2021 that the picture was in the pre-production stage, with the crew actively researching places for filming.

Later that month, Rob Zombie confirmed that the character designs will be true to the original material, and that an identical reproduction of the Mockingbird Lane Mansion would be built for the movie.

Throughout pre-production, Zombie had been updating fans on the film’s progress on his Instagram account. Zombie unveiled the barren land that would be transformed into the Munster’s community on July 19, 2021. At that stage, the only work done was grading the area where the road would be paved. On July 21, he shared a sneak peek at the early sculpting for Herman Munster’s head prosthesis. Between the 19th and the 24th of July, work on the Munster’s house and the nearby residences began, as well as the digging of drains and the laying of curbs that would ultimately line the road. By August 8, 2021, the road’s asphalt has been laid.
