In the inaugural The Cuphead Show! season 2 teaser, the Devil returns with a vengeance. The Netflix animated series is based on Studio MDHR’s namesake computer game, in which players control Cuphead and his brother Mugman as they unintentionally bet away their souls at the Devil’s casino and must reclaim the souls of fleeing debtors to appease the Devil. Cuphead received positive reviews from critics for its iconic animation style, gameplay, and soundtrack, while its difficulty received mixed reviews from both critics and players.

The Cuphead Show! takes a larger approach to adapting the game, including Cuphead and Mugman’s odd exploits, as well as their paternal figure Elder Kettle, while still mentioning their meetings with the Devil. Tru Valentino and Frank Todaro star as Cuphead and Mugman, respectively, alongside Joe Hanna, Grey DeLisle, Luke Millington-Drake as the Devil, and Wayne Brady as King Dice. The Cuphead Show! is getting ready to return just a few months after its debut.

Netflix has published the first The Cuphead Show! season 2 teaser as part of the streaming platform’s Geeked Week. The video previews Cuphead, Mugman, and Elder Kettle’s new exploits while also disclosing an August launch date for the next part of the cartoon series. Watch the trailer below:

Though merely a quick teaser including video from the first season, The Cuphead Show! season 2 teaser delivers lots of thrilling teases of what’s to store from the animated series’ second season. Cuphead and Mugman were hauled off to prison in the season 1 finale after becoming friends with Grey DeLisle’s con artist Ms. Chalice, with the season 2 teaser hinting at their escape and Ms. Chalice seeking to repent for having them take the blame for her. The teaser also teases the Devil’s return as he continues his attempts to take Cuphead’s soul, which have usually failed as he and Mugman have outwitted him.

Given that the season 2 teaser features footage from prior episodes, it’s uncertain whether Wayne Brady’s King Dice will return. After failing to gain Cuphead’s soul in Season 1, the Devil fired King Dice from presenting his game show, but given the character’s popularity as one of the Cuphead game’s final bosses, it’s probable he’ll return in Season 2. When The Cuphead Show! season 2 premieres on August 19, only time will tell.
