During their Geeked Week event, Netflix released the first teaser trailer for season 2 of their smash adult animated series Inside Job.
Netflix has become the go-to streaming site for adult animated series in recent years, with shows like Big Mouth, Disenchantment, and Chicago Party Aunt becoming cult favourites.
Inside Job, a funny comedy series from Shion Takeuchi (Disenchantment) and Alex Hirsh (Gravity Falls) set in the shadow government organisation Cognito Inc., was one of the finest animated shows of 2021.
Season 2 of Inside Job was confirmed before the first season even aired on Netflix, with a brand new teaser recently indicating that the series’ return is ‘Coming Soon.’
Inside Job, an adult animated series, received a 20-episode order from Netflix in April 2019.
The 2021 release was really ‘Part 1’ of this order, and it only had 10 of the 20 scheduled episodes, indicating that a second season of 10 episodes was already being planned by Netflix Animation, Taco Gucci, and Jam Filled Entertainment production companies.
The episode 10 cliffhanger also provided fans optimism that Inside Job will return for season 2 when Rand Ridley was reinstated as CEO of the business by the enigmatic Robe council.
All of this was on top of Netflix’s overall arrangement with showrunner Shion Takeuchi, which was announced last year. The streaming provider and the creator have agreed to collaborate on “new shows and other projects exclusively for Netflix” over a multi-year period.
Netflix is continuing to increase its collection of adult animation material and generate a steady stream of new titles: three popular adult animated series, including Q-Force, Chicago Party Aunt, and Adventure Beast, launched in the two months leading up to the premiere.
Given that the series was ordered for 20 episodes more than two years ago and is one of the first ‘in-house’ productions, it was a fair bet that Netflix was planning to keep Inside Job going for more absurd escapades from the start.
Takeuchi echoed this idea on Twitter, writing, “If you like Inside Job and want to see more, spread the word and get your friends and family to watch!”
On June 8th, during Day Three of Netflix’s Geeked Week event, a brand new trailer for Inside Job season 2 was released, which you can see below.
Inside Job’s new teaser ended with Netflix’s standard “Coming Soon” caption, but neither the streaming giant nor the showrunners have confirmed a release date. Fans should expect Inside Job season 2 to premiere in Fall 2022, based on the 20-episode order in 2019 and the just released trailer.
