No Time To Die Review: Fans of the James Bond series will have Herculean expectations for this picture. After all, this is Daniel Craig‘s final Bond picture, and he had to be persuaded to participate in this one as well. Due to the pandemic, the release of this picture has been postponed. No Time To Die is a fantastic film. Instead, it exceeds all expectations and even goes above and beyond.
The introduction sequence sets the tone for the film with a heady mix of romance, action, explosion and betrayal. The story that follows is an edge-of-the-seat drama that has one hooked to the screen. The fact that the film is 2 hours and 43 minutes long and is the longest Bond film till date seems rather inconsequential. As one is eventually left wanting more in the end of the film.
This story has everything that one expects from Daniel Craig as Bond and yet also is a tribute of sorts to the good old 007 films back in the day that starred Roger Moore and Sean Connery. There are all staples one expects from the films from the franchise, be it stunning automobiles, fancy gadgets, sci-fi twists, femme fatales, pacy action sequences and macabre villains who never fail to shock you. Of course, throw in Bond trying to rescue the world too.
All of Bond’s pals, as well as some old foes, gather behind him in this film. It seeks to bring Daniel Craig’s time as Bond to a close. And the fact that there’s a female agent, Nomi, who was chosen as 007 while Bond was on vacation, makes one wonder what more the brand could have in store. Could there be a twist on the agent name in store? It’s also an odd coincidence that the film’s core topic deals with DNA and genocide when we’re in the midst of a pandemic. Keep in mind that the movie was completed a long time ago.
Speculations and hypotheses notwithstanding, this picture provides ample opportunity for Daniel Craig fans to honour their idol. He’s not only in great shape, but he also looks better than ever. In his act as Bond’s Hannibal-esque foe, Rami Malik makes a strong impression. Cary Joji Fukunaga has created a party for Bond enthusiasts that will be remembered for a long time. And Léa Seydoux makes sure that her character’s complexity and secrets are well realised. Another highlight is Ana de Armas, who plays Bond’s assistant during his Cuban adventure in the film, as well as Lashana Lynch, who plays the new 007.
