Filming on George Miller’s Mad Max prequel picture, Furiosa has begun, according to Chris Hemsworth. George Miller created a tremendous blockbuster with Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015, some years after completing a trilogy of films with Mel Gibson as Max. The picture stars Tom Hardy as Max and introduced audiences to Charlize Theron’s Furiosa, with the two sharing the screen for most of the action-packed adventure.

Hemsworth has revealed that Furiosa is currently in production. As filming in Australia gets underway, he released a photo of the movie’s clapper on social media. So yet, only Hemsworth and Warner Bros. have acknowledged the start of filming, but Anya Taylor-Joy and George Miller, as well as Warner Bros., could be the next to do so. This announcement comes nearly two years to the day before Furiosa is set to hit theatres on May 24, 2024.

The popularity of Mad Max: Fury Road allowed George Miller to continue the franchise and explore plans for a prequel centered on Furiosa, who had become a standout character. When it was reported that Anya Taylor-Joy would play the younger Imperator Furiosa and bring Charlize Theron’s character back to life, production on Furiosa truly picked up in 2020.

Later, it was confirmed that Chris Hemsworth would also be appearing in the Mad Max prequel film. According to further rumors, he’ll be playing Furiosa’s adversary. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was also in the cast at one point, but owing to schedule issues, he had to step out and was replaced by Tom Burke. Filming for the highly anticipated prequel has been frequently postponed, much like Mad Max: Fury Road’s difficult production.

So far, nothing is known about Furiosa’s plot except that it takes place before the events of Mad Max: Fury Road. Anya Taylor-Joy has indicated a wish to shave her head, similar to Charlize Theron, but it is unclear whether this will be necessary. One thing is certain: Hemsworth’s Furiosa adversary is not a figure that has been in earlier films, debunking the widespread assumption that he is portraying a youthful Immortan Joe. While plot elements and character information are being kept under wraps, fans can rest assured that the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel will be packed with action and automobiles. The fact that Furiosa is currently filming should be enough to pique the interest of fans of the franchise. It’s no secret that bringing George Miller’s vision to life, much alone getting Mad Max: Fury Road off the ground, was challenging. While COVID-19 created a series of production delays for Furiosa, the start of filming dispelled any doubts that the film would not be made. Now all Chris Hemsworth, Anya Taylor-Joy, and George Miller have to do is finish Furiosa before summer 2024.
