At Star Wars Celebration, the first teaser trailer for the Disney+ series Willow premiered, offering us a first glimpse at the tale and characters introduced in the famous 1988 feature film of the same name. Willow is scheduled to be released November 30, 2022 on Disney+.

Last year, it was reported that actor Warwick Davis will return to the series as Willow Ufgood, alongside a brand-new cast that included Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, Ellie Bamber, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers, and Tony Revolori.

Willow, directed by Ron Howard and based on a George Lucas original story and written by Bob Dolman, was released 34 years ago. Willow Ufgood, a sheltered Nelwyn dwarf who aspired to be a magician, was the protagonist. The film begins with him discovering an adorable abandoned newborn named Elora Danan, whom he adopts. Elora was foretold to bring Queen Bavmorda’s terrible reign to an end (Jean Marsh).

Willow is tasked with delivering the infant to the humans after his small kind has been sufficiently terrified, and in the process, he gathers some allies, including the mercenary fighter Madmartigan (Val Kilmer), the queen’s daughter Sorsha (Joanne Whalley), and two tiny Brownies (Kevin Pollak and Rick Overton).

Davis reprises his role as the titular Willow in the trailer, a sorcerer who attempted to protect the foretold infant who would become empress. In this epicteaser, Davis plays a reclusive sorcerer-hermit, and a ragtag band of adventurers tries to get Willow to help them restore balance to their planet. It has since been established that this is not an adaptation or a remake, but rather a sequel to the original Willow film, featuring the same actor. Joanne Whalley is repeating her original role as Sorsha, the formidable warrior, according to the latest trailer. Aside from that, the Willow trailer has left us with some significant indications about the plot and even bigger questions regarding the Nelwyn sorcerer’s future exploits.

Princess Kit (Ruby Cruz) will be a new character in the Willow series, and she will be attempting to save her twin brother. Amar Chadha-Patel (Solo and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and Erin Kellyman (Solo and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) both star as an aspiring warrior and a petty thief, respectively, who agree to assist Kit in saving the Prince. Ellie Bamber, Tony Revolori, and Dempsey Bryk will all appear in Willow as “kitchen maids.”

Val Kilmer’s iconic character Madmartigan will not appear in the first season of the new series, but that doesn’t mean his fingerprints aren’t all over the tale. Madmartigan is a prominent character in the series, according to the creative team behind it, and Kilmer will be the sole actor to play him if he ever appears on screen again. Fans get to glimpse the franchise’s new generation of heroes for the first time in the teaser, as well as hear about how Madmartigan’s legacy lives on in the series. During the event, executive producer Jonathan Kasden discussed how crucial Madmartigan is to the overall story.
