Out of the continuing Cannes market in 2022, Amazon is set to acquire Oscar winner Emerald Fennell’s top-secret Saltburn. The acquisition of “Saltburn” will be part of Amazon’s world rights deal with MRC, according to Deadline. Emerald Fennell is a triple threat as a writer, producer, and director, and all signs point to Saltburn being a hit.

If all goes well, Amazon will be in a world rights deal with Knives Out producer MRC Entertainment to acquire rights to Fennel’s Saltburn. LuckyChap Entertainment, which produced another female-written and directed film, the colourful and anarchic Birds of Prey, based on the DC antihero Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie, will also produce. Robbie also appears in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming film Barbie, which stars Saltburn’s director, Fennell, and is directed by Gerwig.

In the United Kingdom, principal photography is planned to commence this summer. The streaming service also acquired Lynne Ramsay’s adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s vengeance thriller “Stone Mattress” from Cannes, which stars Sandra Oh and Julianne Moore.

It’s no surprise that Fennell’s follow-up picture Saltburn is such a hot item at Cannes this year, given the popularity of her first feature film, the nail-polish lacquered thriller Promising Young Woman, which earned her an Oscar for her original script. Fennell has already established herself as a forceful writer and director, recognised for pushing boundaries and getting under people’s skin. Despite the fact that little is known about Saltburn, the cast that has been announced has a solid reputation. Because the film is still in pre-production, little is known about the plot or the release date.

Rosamund Pike, well renowned for her stubborn – if slightly unnerving and twisted – portrayal of Amy Dunne in the thriller Gone Girl, was the first actress to be unveiled. Pride and Prejudice, Jack Reacher, Wrath of the Titans, and her main part in Netflix’s brutal satire I Care A Lot are among her other famous roles. She’ll also star in the social thriller Rich Flu, directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, which is causing a sensation at Cannes.
