This summer, romantic drama fans will have a new film to add to their watch list. First Love chronicles two high school students in their journey of first love and heartbreak, starring Hero Fiennes Tiffin (Jim) and Sydney Park (Ann). First Love sets Jim and Ann’s love story against Jim’s parents’ relationship as they suffer following a financial catastrophe, and has been described as a “poignant look at a young man’s tough introduction into adulthood.” Voltage Pictures is planning a summer release.

Deadline first confirmed the project in May 2021. The piece was written and directed by A.J. Edwards, who is recognised for his work on The Better Angels and Age Out. With producers Nadine de Barros, Henry Kittredge, and Lucas Jarach, Diane Kruger serves as executive producer. Tyler Glodt and John Williams are credited as co-producers, while Todd Spradlin is mentioned as an associate producer, in addition to Edwards.

The Cast:

Jim and Ann are played by Fiennes Tiffin and Sydney Park, respectively. Audiences are undoubtedly familiar with Fiennes Tiffin from his major part as Hardin Scott in the Wattpad-to-screen smash After. Park’s work on The Walking Dead and Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists is well-known. Jim’s parents are played by Diane Kruger (Troy, National Treasure) and Jeffrey Donovan (Burn Notice, Hitch). Nick, played by Blake Weise, appears to be one of Jim’s buddies who is assisting him in his heartbreak.

On the IMDb page for the film, Diane Venora (Bird) plays Aunt Irene, Nikolai Tsankov (Manifest, The Americans) plays Father Alex, Harrison Cone (Stage Fright) plays Tol, Elena Heuzé plays Kim, Chris Galust plays Nick Albright, Bruce Wexler (Euphoria, Brotherhood) plays Vance Hughes, Kiara T. Romero plays Liz, Dominique Gayle plays Natalie, Makeba Pace (Tru Nanrisa Lee (Bosch, The Morning Show) has an unidentified part in the film.

The Trailer:

Here is the first official trailer of First Love!

Release date:

The teaser indicates that the film will be released on June 17, 2022. According to the teaser posted by Nu Metro, the film will be released around or on the same day in various territories, with South African viewers getting to see it on June 24, 2022.

What we know:

This isn’t the first time filmmaker Edwards and actor Kruger have collaborated. Kruger starred as Sarah Lincoln in The Better Angels, while Edwards directed and wrote the film. The film is a historical drama about President Abraham Lincoln’s early life, particularly his upbringing in Indiana. It had its world premiere at Sundance in 2014. It’ll be intriguing to watch the two collaborate on something so different.

This isn’t Fiennes Tiffin’s first appearance in a Voltage Pictures picture. The After series’ production firm is Voltage Pictures, and this is the sixth feature and second significant project he’s worked on with them. However, it is the first time he has employed an American accent in one of their movies. In the teaser, Fiennes Tiffin’s American accent is practically identifiable, but it’s a pleasant contrast from the British dialect fans have come to associate with the dark and melancholy Hardin Scott.
