Willow Gets Premiere Dates and First Trailers on Disney+

Disney+ is finally ready to provide more information about its Willow resurrection. The TV show (just titled Willow) will air on November 30th, according to the streamer. The accompanying teaser trailer doesn’t reveal much, although it features an older Willow Ufgood returning to defend a future empress from evil. He’ll join an eclectic company of explorers, but he’ll be much more experienced than in the 1988 film.

“Willow,” an epic period fantasy series with a modern sensibility set in an enchanted country of exquisite beauty, stars a varied international cast and is executive produced by Jonathan Kasdan, Ron Howard, Wendy Mericle, Kathleen Kennedy, and Michelle Rejwan. The plot began with an ambitious magician from a Nelwyn village and an infant girl destined to unify the realms, who worked together to defeat an evil queen and expel the forces of darkness. The adventure continues in a magical realm teeming with brownies, sorcerers, trolls, and other mystical creatures, as an unlikely group of heroes embark on a perilous journey to areas far beyond their home, where they must confront their inner demons and band together to defend their world.

Warwick Davis reprises his role as Willow in the show. Ellie Bamber (most recently in Netflix’s The Serpent) and Disney alumni Erin Kellyman are among those joining the cast (Solo and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier). When Jon Chu was forced to resign down owing to pandemic restrictions, he was replaced by a number of directors. Ron Howard, the filmmaker of the film Willow, is an executive producer.

The news comes just as Disney revealed details about its next Star Wars programmes, including Andor and Skeleton Crew. So the firm isn’t hiding its Disney+ agenda. In order to keep people watching, the service is cramming its schedule with ever more originals, and it isn’t reluctant to mine numerous existing properties in the process.

Lucasfilm and Imagine Entertainment will premiere an all-new live-action fantasy adventure series exclusively on Disney+. 30 November 2022
