Mr. Malcolm’s List, based on Suzanne Allain’s novel of the same name, is an upcoming period drama directed by Emma Holly Jones and written by Suzanne Allain. The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 1, 2022.
About the Plot
Set in the 19th century, the film introduces us to Mr. Malcolm, a wealthy bachelor with a respectable title, who is looking for a bride. Julia Thistlewaite (Zawe Ashton) is jilted by Mr. Malcolm, London’s most eligible bachelor, after failing to meet every item on his list of prerequisites for a marriage. Julia wants Mr. Malcolm to fall in love with her, but her buddy rejects him in the same way. Julia and Mr. Malcolm, on the other hand, build a bond and begin to fall in love.
Mr. Malcolm’s List trailer
The film’s first trailer was recently released. In the first trailer, it’s evident that Selina made a mistake by agreeing to Julia’s plan. Julia’s dream of vengeance arose from her humiliation and rejection when Jerimiah said she didn’t match his list of qualifications for being his bride. Selina was intended to portray herself to Jerimiah as the ideal potential wife, only to crush his heart by declaring he wasn’t right for her list. The issue is that Jerimiah and Selina are obviously meant to be together. However, when the truth is revealed, as it undoubtedly will, it may jeopardise their relationship before it even begins.
Cast & Production
Freida Pinto, Sope Dirisu, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ashley Park, Zawe Ashton, and Theo James from the “Divergent” film franchise make out the cast. Bleecker Street will release “Mr. Malcolm’s List” in theatres on July 1 in the United States. Suzanne Allain self-published her novel Mr. Malcom’s List in 2009 and adapted it into a screenplay the following year. When The Black List produced a podcast script reading of the highly rated script submitted through the website in 2015, filmmaker Emma Holly Jones discovered it. Jones pursued the rights and enlisted the help of Laura Rister and later Laura Lewis to develop the feature film adaptation.
The crew decided to develop a short film as a teaser for a possible feature film, and collaborated on it with Vice Studios’ Refinery29 and their Shatterbox short film series for female filmmakers. Allain’s novel was formally published in 2020 by Berkley Press, and the feature film adaptation gained financial assistance, thanks to the success of the short film. To shoot in Ireland, the crew worked with producer Katie Holly and her firm Blinder Films, and production began in March 2021. Zawe Ashton, Theo James, and Ashley Park were among the new cast members.
