Sasha Calle, who will play Supergirl in the DCEU’s The Flash film, talks about becoming the first Latina actress to play the character. She talked about her role as Supergirl in the film and how she wants Latina girls to perceive themselves as superheroes. Calle told V magazine about a time on set of The Flash when director Andy Muschetti showed her a sequence as Supergirl and explained what it meant to her.

Calle became emotional while filming because she realised she was the first Latina actor to play the great Kryptonian hero; she told “Representation in the entertainment industry really matters, and I’m super honored, honestly (to be the first Latina Supergirl). There was a moment when we were shooting, when Andy (Director of the movie) was like, “Hey, come over here and watch this scene on the playback monitor.” And I go over and I see her (Supergirl), and she’s in her full glory. And suddenly, I got really emotional. Because I’m looking at that, and I’m like, “Wow, I wish I would have had this when I was little.” It meant a lot to me. I turned into child Sasha watching this person (on the screen). So it’s really important. And I’m really happy and really thankful to DC and Warner Brothers for doing this now. It’s so cool that we’re doing this, and, ya know, it’s about time.”

Supergirl, on the other hand, will not star in her own film, but rather in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash. Calle, who joined The Flash in February 2021, has been one of the show’s major secrets throughout its creation. While set photographs have shown her costume, it’s still unknown which version of Supergirl the writers are going for in her DCEU premiere. Given The Flash’s Multiverse inclusion, Calle’s Supergirl might not be from the same Earth as the DCEU’s Barry Allen, but only time will tell.

The Flash movie was supposed to come out in November, but Warner Bros. put it out to June 2023. Despite the fact that more details about her Supergirl will not be published for some time, Calle recently spoke to V Magazine about her journey to becoming the beloved DCEU hero. The fact that Calle is the first Latina to be cast as Supergirl is something that has happened before with other superhero shows.

The film Supergirl was first announced in 2018, with filming beginning in 2019. However, ideas for the film were dropped at some point, and Calle was cast as Supergirl in The Flash. The first look at Supergirl was unveiled during a teaser for The Flash at last year’s DC FanDome event, giving fans a glimpse of the hero’s new costume. And the movie won’t be Calle’s only opportunity to influence a new generation.
